Kandahar University, Medicine Faculty and Teaching Hospital

Kandahar University is a public higher education institution founded in 1990, by ministry of higher education in the city of Kandahar the former capital of Afghanistan and the current important political and cultural city of the country with initial opening of Agriculture Faculty with only one program, namely Agronomy. Currently Kandahar University has 42 programs in twelve Faculties namely Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, Education, Sharia-Law, Economics, Journalism, Law and Political Science, Public Administration & Policy, Language & Literature, Computer Science and Stomatology. In addition, faculties of Education, Agriculture, Sharia-Law and Economics have evening shift classes as well. Kandahar University has two affiliated branches one in Helmand and another in Urozgan neighboring provinces where students are learning in various disciplines. The university is among the leading universities of Afghanistan. Around10, 000 students from the entire country and 224 lecturers are busy in learning and teaching in Kandahar University.

Beside collaborations with national universities, Kandahar University has collaborations with international universities from around the world namely Ball state, Purdue, Johns Hopkins, Texas A&M universities in USA,  Technical University of Berlin and Ruhr University in Germany, University Santiago de Compostela in Spain, National University of Public Service in Hungary,  Asian Institute of Technology and Mahidol University in Thailand, Malaya University in Malaysia, Jawaharlal Nehru University in India, Handong Global University in South Korea, and Sistan & Baluchestan and Zabul universities in Iran.

In the December 2016, Kandahar University was awarded the status of Center of Excellence in Quality Assurance (CEQA) by Ministry of Higher Education.
