Another cobra snakes into DU Shivaji College

A large cobra was found in the football field of Delhi Universitys Shivaji College, Raja Garden, West Delhi. The five-foot long snake, which was rescued on Tuesday, was found to have become entangled in the netting of the goal post and suffered multiple injuries in its attempt to extricate itself.

The snake was rescued by Wildlife SOS when callers reported the incident to the helpline 9871963535. The snake will be provided medical treatment before it is released.

The trapped reptile had struggled for several hours unsuccessfully to escape the synthetic netting getting more entangled each time it struggled to escape.

The traumatised reptile was extricated with utmost care by the specialist team from Wildlife SOS when it was discovered by the startled football players who called the Wildlife SOS 24-hr rescue helpline to report the matter.

Kartick Satyanarayan, co-founder of Wildlife SOS, said: Synthetic netting in gardens, swimming pools and football fields cause thousands of fatalities to wildlife. Unsuspecting reptiles, birds and small mammals often get entangled and trapped and choke to death. In this case the situation was extremely delicate as the snake was very badly entangled, and had to be untangled and rescued extremely carefully as the animal was already injured. Moreover we were dealing with a venomous snake.
