Supreme Court directive to benefit 18,000 MBA, MCA, BE students

AHMEDBAD: The Supreme Court (SC) order giving directions to admit students who have not cleared their entrance test in Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Computer Application (MCA), Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and Pharmacy will be beneficial to around 1,850 students who were earlier given provisional admissions by the self-financed institutes.

The apex court in the case of Gujarat government versus Association of SelfFinanced Colleges has directed that the self-financed colleges should forward the list of candidates admitted to the professional courses to the state. The apex court directed that after verifying the mark eligibility criteria, the state should pass or ders of granting admission.

The self-financed management for the past two years has been challenging the same on the grounds that there were vacancies in the colleges and the state should permit the management to admit students.

Association of Self-Financed College Management president Janak Khandwala said that the order is not extended for all the students. The order is only applicable for the students who were given provisional admission by the college. The colleges have admitted 1,500 students in MBA, 150 in MCA and about 200 students in BE. The 1,850 students who qualified, but had not appeared for the entrance test were granted provisional admission by the self-financed colleges in the management quota.

Khandwala demanded that since the SC was giving orders and permitting admissions, the state should work out a clause while framing rules where it should say that if there are vacancies, the colleges can admit students who have not appeared for the different entrance test conducted for various faculties.
