UP education department boss prescribes his own book on values

Students of class 9 to 12 in UPs government schools will now also learn about legal and constitutional rights, and values in the 2016-17 session. The addition of the book Learning rights and values to the secondary education curriculum cant be welcomed enough in a state often in the news for the denial of the same. But for the fact that the author, IAS officer Jitendra Kumar, himself heads the secondary education department.

The fact that he has been in the soup due to serious charges has only added fuel to fire in the controversy over the new book released recently by UP Governor Ram Naik. However, the UP Board for Secondary Education has now developed cold feet and put the book on hold. The book, in Hindi and English, has three co-authors including Luv Verma (also an IAS officer), Father Donald Dsouza, and Sayyed Zulfi of Mindshare, the publishers.
